袖珍型RS232/RS485/RS422光猫采用大规模FPGA设计，支持异步RS232/RS485/RS422通信接口的光纤MODEM。该设备是连接远程终端单元(RTU)到主机(HOST)或分布式数据采集系统(SCADA)控制器的最佳选择，具有很高的性能价格比。
使用普通的多模光纤，有效通信距离达4KM，使用普通的单模光纤，有效通信距离可达40KM以上，串行口的通信速率可达921.6KBPS。由于采用了光纤作为传输介质，可以完全避免恶劣环境下雷电、浪涌、电磁干扰等对通信设备的威胁，同时省去了原来使用铜线时的雷电浪涌保护设备投资。
