组网应用
应用于链形网络，可极大的增强网络的安全性，当某站点的传输设备发生电源故障、软件硬件故障后，OBP可迅速旁路掉该故障设备，使上游、下游的传输设备建立直接通讯，避免了网络完全阻断的情况发生。当该站点的故障被排除后，OBP可立即回切光路，迅速将原先被旁路的传输设备连入到网络中。
应用于环形网络，可进一步增强网络的安全性，当多站点发生故障后，也能维持网络的畅通，确保没有故障的站点之间正常通讯。
