N+1光交叉保护系统可使用一台备用发光设备保护多台主用发光设备的矩阵切换保护系统。在光纤传输系统中,用于多路光发设备单台备份保护,如有8台光发设备一台做备用,当8台光发中的其中任意一台设备出故障且备用设备正常时,光交叉保护设备会在毫秒级的时间内切换到备用设备上,让系统正常工作。
